InSTEM Mentorship - Mentor Application 2023
Mentors will be matched with youth such that mentees gain the most from the program. Please note that some mentees may request mentors of a specific gender or age. Due to this, mentor selection is highly dependent on the demographic that mentees request. If an applicant possesses the qualifications necessary to be a mentor, their application will be held on file until they can be appropriately matched.
Mentors are expected to meet the following expectations:
- Connect with their mentee(s) via phone or video call at least twice per month (Exception: For communities where wifi and/or cell service is not an option, emails and text conversations will suffice)
- Provide insight to the post-secondary education experience and/or personal experience in STEM fields
- Be transparent, open, and honest with mentees
Applicants should possess the following qualities:
- Hold at least one of the following identities:
- - Indigenous, First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
- - Faculty, staff, or student at a post-secondary institution
- - Specialize in or study STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
- Able to maintain a consistent relationship with a mentee for at least 6 months
- Available for up to 8 hours of training (synchronous or blended synchronous-asynchronous)
