Kelowna In-Person Saturday Clubs

 

Saturday Clubs are weekly meetings all about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In our 2022 Kelowna Saturday Clubs, we invite students in Grades 1-7 in the 2021-2022 school year to join us in exciting themes including Maker and STEAM! These weekly ten-session programs are led by two passionate undergraduate staff and are sure to excite almost anyone with a passion for STEM.

What are Saturday Clubs?

Each semester features a mixture of new inquiry-based curriculum and hands-on activities. Kelowna Saturday Clubs are designed to have new content that differs from previous Kelowna Clubs, Vancouver Fall and Winter Clubs, Summer Camps, and Spring Break Clubs combined with new takes on some fan favourites. The Kelowna and Vancouver In-Person 2021/2022 club sessions run the same content.

Grade Levels: Grades 1-7 (varies by Club Theme)

Program Pricing: $230 for 10 club sessions
We believe that every person should be able to participate in our programs, and so we are working hard to bring you programming. As such, please see our bursary information at the bottom of the page if you require financial assistance to participate.

Registration Deadline: Registration for Kelowna Saturday In-Person Clubs closes on January 15, 2022

Clubs will run every Saturday morning from 10AM to 12PM at the UBC Okanagan Campus!

WINTER CLUB THEMES

STEAM CLUB 1-2

Originality, creativity, and innovation form the pillars of our STEAM programs for grades 1-2. STEAM focuses on the union of art and all things STEM! In this club we aim to encourage campers’ passion for science alongside art and design! During this ten week program participants will explore different themes each week which will allow them to develop their own excitement for STEAM, some topics may include astronomy, crazy chemistry, and much more!

Curriculum will be different from last year’s clubs with the exception of a few fan favourites with a fresh twist!

GRADE LEVELS: Grades 1-2
PRICING: $230 for 10 sessions

MAKER CLUB

Makers unite! Join us in our grades 3 and 4 Maker Club as we push the boundaries of DIY. This magnificent Maker club calls all who love to learn, explore, and inquire through creation and design! Our program takes on DIY projects that encourages our participants to immerse themselves in engineering topics! Our ten week program includes themes such as computer, environmental, and mechanical engineering in addition to many more disciplines!

Curriculum will be different from last year’s clubs with the exception of a few fan favourites with a fresh twist!

GRADE LEVELS: Grades 3-4
PRICING: $230 for 10 sessions

STEAM Club 5-7

To those who like to ask big questions, this is the club for you. In this club we will investigate some of the biggest scientific mysteries. Rooted in the union of artistic expression and STEM design processes, we aim to foster a co-enriched environment where participants can ask questions and ponder over the complexities of the world. We’ll cover introductory topics such as the microscopic DNA in our body to the creation of the seven magnificent wonders of the world. Join us for a club filled with inquiry, exploration, and hands-on projects!

Curriculum will be different from last year’s clubs with the exception of a few fan favourites with a fresh twist!

GRADE LEVELS: Grades 5-7
PRICING: $230 for 10 sessions

CLUB POLICIES

Please read the information below regarding our policies in place for camps this year.

Due to the continuously changing nature of COVID-19, and because health and safety are a paramount concern for us at Geering Up, we will alter our policies regularly to match with current government regulations. If changes are made to our safety policies, we will send these updates to all registered participants 2 weeks prior to the start of your club.

 

  • Each participant will be assigned a desk.
  • Each group will be isolated from other club groups for the entire session
  • Whenever possible, physical distancing will practiced
  • Sign in/out as well as daily pickup/dropoff will occur outdoors
  • Unfortunately, there won’t be tours or guest speakers attending our clubs
  • Materials and shared surfaces will be sanitized regularly, according to BC guidelines.
  • Participants will be required to wash their hands frequently (between activities and at the beginning and end of the day).
  • Geering Up clubs will run 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Different support strategies. We may not be able to provide the same level of 1:1 support as we have in past year. Please reach out to us with any questions you may have regarding exceptionalities and whether our staff can providing care for your camper while maintain safety protocols. We would love to hear from you what strategy may work for your child. Similarly, we will not be able to provide 1:1 support for participants who are less comfortable with English instruction. Please reach out to us with any questions you may have regarding participants with English as a second language and we can discuss arrangements further.

For in-person clubs, we offer the following cancellation policy:

  • $25.00 fee for cancellations made one or more weeks prior to the start of your camp
  • 50% of camp registration fee for cancellations made less than 1 week prior to the start of your camp
  • No refund can be given after 4:00 PM on the Friday preceding your camp

We want to be as flexible as possible while also keeping programming costs down. When a customer cancels, we lose money in non-refundable credit card and registration fees. We never charge a fee for transferring off the waitlist. We hope this makes it as easy as possible to change your plans

In the event that our in-person programs are cancelled, we will be happy to transfer you to an equivalent online program free of charge or provide you a full refund.
