Sustainable Solutions: Integrating Real-World Issues with ADST and Design Cycle Thinking
(Grade 4-7 Teachers) |
In this interactive professional development workshop, educators will discover how to integrate real-world issues into their classrooms through the lens of design cycle thinking and the ADST curriculum. By focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Sustainable Consumption, teachers will learn to introduce sustainability in ways that are meaningful and relevant to their students’ communities.
The workshop will feature guest speakers, hands-on activities, and adaptable classroom resources that connect global challenges with local, community-based solutions. |

FAQs
Yes, lunch will be provided! In your registration, we will ask you for dietary restrictions.
Each Pro-D Day will be a combination of hands-on, or technology-based workshops, discussions, and guest speakers. You should be prepared to engage in the content, as we demonstrate activities that can be used in your classroom by doing them!
70% of tomorrow's jobs will require STE(A)M skills, but less than half of high school students graduate with the pre-requisite STE(A)M courses (Skills Competencies Canada). BC's new ADST curriculum heavily integrates computer science and applied science skills to help address that gap. Geering Up workshops aim to help educators satisfy BC’s new ADST curriculum by providing them the opportunity to investigate STE(A)M in fun, innovative, and hands-on projects which can then be brought into their own classroom. Our workshops allow teachers to build future skills, gain tools, and knowledge, allowing them to inspire their students to explore a future in STE(A)M!
For the tech session, participants will need a computer with internet connection. There will be no downloading of any software or programs. Most if not all other materials will be provided by the Geering Up Team. An email with more information about the content and any additional preparation will be sent before your scheduled session.
Yes! Anyone can attend our pro-d day workshops. We do base our programming on BC Curriculum and core competencies, but you can adapt to fit your province and/or school district.
If you aren’t available to attend our Pro-D we have a couple options for you: 1. Request a workshop at your school. Geering Up offers free in-person and virtual workshops for schools and school boards. 2. Check out our Resource Hub. This online hub is a one stop shop for educators to find resources they need to deliver STE(A)M activities in their classrooms. The resource hub offers lesson plans, tutorials, and resources.
