Fraser Valley Classroom Workshops

!
COVID-19 Notes: Geering Up is working hard to set up our STEM workshops to be delivered virtually in 2021. Stay tuned for more information coming soon! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at workshops@geeringup.ca.

Our instructors can bring workshops straight to your classroom with interactive demonstrations, activities, and take-home projects for students to create. Teachers can sit back, relax, and watch their students become engaged in the fun of science and engineering. Our highly-trained instructors will adapt each workshop to suit the individual strengths and challenges of each class. Please contact us to discuss how we can customize our workshops for your group.

  • Workshop Dates:
    MAY – JUNE
  • Available Times:
    9 – 10:00AM, 10:30AM – 11:30AM, 1 – 2:00PM
We are happy to accommodate your school’s bell schedule.

WORKSHOP TOPICS

Kindergarten: Ecosystems Everywhere

What do living things need to survive? How do animals and plants interact? Join us in exploring how living and non-living things form ecosystems and discover what it would take to grow your own plant!

GRADE: Kindergarten

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Daily and Seasonal Changes Affect all Living Things, Observable Features of Plants and Animals.

Grade 1: Molecules Matter

It’s time to find out what you, the ground you’re standing on, and everything around you is made up of! Dive into the world of matter as we learn about its properties through fun hands-on activities. Students will even get to build their own anemometers!

GRADE: 1

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Properties of Matter, Patterns and Cycles in the Sky and Landscape.

Grade 2: Crazy Chemistry

The world around us is filled with change, some of this change is reversible and other changes are permanent. It’s time to put on our lab coats and become scientist to discover what causes chemical and physical changes to occur.

GRADE: 2

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Materials can be changed through physical and chemical processes.

Grade 3: We Are The World

How do scientist sort living organisms into categories? What characteristics do living things have in common? How do living things interact with their environment? In this worksho,p we will explore how living and non-living things interact in their ecosystems and discover the biodiversity present on earth.

GRADE: 3

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Classification of Organisms, Interdependence of Living Things on their Environment.

Grade 4: Elemental Energy

In this workshop students will discover the different forms of energy and the relationships between them. We will see energy in practice by exploring and creating our own circuits!

GRADE: 4

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Energy can be transformed.

Grade 5: Oh My Organs

Let’s learn how some of the organ systems in your body work together to keep you alive! We will explore the different parts of the digestive and respiratory systems through hands-on activities, and solve a design challenge related to medications.

GRADE: 5

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Basic Structures and functions of body systems.

Grade 6: Phenomenal Forces

Through interactive activities and demonstrations, students will discover how Newton’s three laws work together to influence the motion of objects. You will then apply your knowledge of forces to a hands-on design project.

GRADE: 6

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Newton’s Laws of Motion, Force of Gravity.

Grade 7: Charge Up

Watt do you know about electricity? It’s time to learn about how electric circuits work, and build some of your own. We will spark your interest as we generate positive ideas about circuits.

GRADE: 7

*BC Science Curriculum Links: Electricity is generated in different ways, Electromagnetism.

Grades 8 – 12: Electrifying Design

Students will use their existing knowledge of circuits and electricity, as well as learn a new skill: breadboarding! Join Geering Up in exploring how electronics work and what amazing things it can do.

GRADES: 8 – 12

*BC Science Curriculum Links:
Grade 9: Circuits: Voltage, Current and Resistance
Physics 12: Electric circuits
