Engineering Explorations 8The Variety of EngineeringGirls in grade 8!

Engineering Explorations are an exciting opportunity for girls across BC to visit UBC Engineering and learn about engineering. You will enjoy fun, hands-on activities led by current university students and meet inspiring mentors. Connect with other like-minded students and talk to current engineering students and professionals who will share their stories and experience. All events are free of cost and include all materials, lunch, and refreshments.

Parents are welcomed to a parent information session from 1:00 – 2:00pm during each Engineering Explorations event. Learn why engineering is an amazing career opportunity for your daughter, and how to encourage her to consider all of her options as she moves forward in her secondary and post-secondary education.

Co-hosted by UBC Engineering.

* If you have a boy that is interested in similar programming, we highly encourage you to explore Geering Up and UBC Engineering events. As well, please be aware that we have an inclusive view of the word “girl” and we welcome trans*, genderqueer and non-binary folks interested in these workshops.

Come debunk your perceptions of engineering and see what it’s all about at EE 8! With three activities ranging from software to biomedical engineering, you can learn about the creative and diverse opportunities in engineering. It’s an exploratory day for you to experience what engineers do everyday!

One of the best ways to find out what you’re passionate about is to try it out for yourself! EE 9 features an engineering design challenge where you can build your robotics expertise by presenting a solution to a real-life scenario. Our activities will help you discover the various places you see engineering on a daily basis. With a student panel, you can hear from current engineering students about their technical projects, student life, their journey into UBC Engineering.

How is engineering related to sustainability? How can be use engineering skills to work towards a more environmentally friendly future? Using the engineering design cycle and a focus on environmental engineering, you can ideate new solutions to an engineering problem that many countries face today. EE 10 will also bring in UBC Engineering student groups such as design teams to talk about the inspiration and learning behind their projects.

As technology continues to expand its presence in our daily lives, engineering allows us to leverage new technologies for more applications. EE 11 creates the bridge and identifies the differences between electrical and computer engineering through hands-on workshops. Presentations from student groups and UBC engineering will bring you a closer look into the student experience in pursuing an engineering degree and beyond.

EE 12 is a great way to discover how you can see yourself pursuing engineering as a post-secondary path. Throughout the day, you will iterate through the engineering design cycle to learn or refresh your knowledge about hydraulics and work with other like-minded students to design your own hydraulic drawbridge. There will be opportunities to hear about the experience of current undergraduate engineering students and explore your place in UBC Engineering.

Co-hosted by UBC Engineering in cooperation with ONWiE.
