ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

General Information

To register, please complete the registration form linked above and email it to us at workshops@geeringup.ca.

Our instructors bring 1 to 1.5 hour workshops straight to the classrooms with interactive demonstrations, activities, and take-home projects for students to create. Teachers can sit back, relax, and watch their students become engaged in the fun of science and engineering. Our highly-trained instructors will adapt each workshop to suit the individual strengths and challenges of each class. Our elementary workshops are catered to the BC PLOs. Please contact us to discuss how we can customize our workshops for your group.

Available Elementary school workshop topics in Lower Mainland:

Kindergarten:
Ecosystems Everywhere

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

What do living things need to survive? How do animals and plants interact? Join us in exploring how living and non-living things form ecosystems and discover what it would take to grow your own plant!

BC Science Curriculum Links: Daily and Seasonal Changes Affect all Living Things, Observable Features of Plants and Animals.

Grade 1:Molecules Matter

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

It’s time to find out what you, the ground you’re standing on, and everything around you is made up of! Dive into the world of matter as we learn about its properties through fun hands-on activities. Students will even get to build their own anemometers!

BC Science Curriculum Links: Properties of Matter, Patterns and Cycles in the Sky and Landscape

Grade 2:Crazy Chemistry

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

The world around us is filled with change, some of this change is reversible and other changes are permanent. It’s time to put on our lab coats and become scientist to discover what causes chemical and physical changes to occur.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Materials can be changed through physical and chemical processes

Grade 3:Thermal Theatrics

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

How does thermal energy travel from place to place? Why do some materials heat up faster than others? How do molecules act as they get warmer? In this workshop we explore the three methods of thermal energy transfer!

BC Science Curriculum Links: Transfer of Thermal Energy, Properties of Matter.

Grade 4:Elemental Energy

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

In this workshop students will discover the different forms of energy and the relationships between them. We will see energy in practice by exploring and creating our own circuits!

BC Science Curriculum Links: Energy can be transformed

Grade 5:Oh my Organs

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

Let’s learn how some of the organ systems in your body work together to keep you alive! We will explore the different parts of the digestive and respiratory systems through hands-on activities, and solve a design challenge related to medications.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Basic Structures and functions of body systems

Grade 6:Phenomenal Forces

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

Through interactive activities and demonstrations, students will discover how Newton’s three laws work together to influence the motion of objects. You will then apply your knowledge of forces to a hands-on design project.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Newton’s Laws of Motion, Force of Gravity

Grade 7:Charge Up

Available at Vancouver, Kelowna, Fraser Valley

Watt do you know about electricity? It’s time to learn about how electric circuits work, and build some of your own. We will spark your interest as we generate positive ideas about circuits.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Electricity is generated in different ways, Electromagnetism

Grade K-3:A-MAZE-ing Bots

Available at Vancouver

Ozobots are small, smart and capable robots that make for a fantastic introduction to robotics. In this workshop, students will be introduced to how robots turn instructions into actions.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Meets multiple components of the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies Curriculum.

Grade 1-4:Circuit Circus

Available at Vancouver

Electricity is all around us but how do we control it? In this workshop, students will be introduced to electronics and programming with a simple circuit board, the Circuit Playground.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Meets multiple components of the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies Curriculum.

Grade 4-7:The Innovation Generation

Available at Vancouver

3D modelling allows students to bring their creative ideas to life! This workshop will culminate in a design and build challenge where students will create their own projects with the help of a 3D modelling software.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Meets multiple components of the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies Curriculum.

Grade 5-7:Meaningful Measurements

Available at Vancouver

Accurate measurement tools are key in understanding the natural world. Students will build a hardware model to mimic a real-life meteorology problem, and will write simple programs which will interact with the hardware to collect data.

BC Science Curriculum Links: Meets multiple components of the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies Curriculum.
