Homework and Hangout Club Volunteer Opportunity
WHO: You! Engaged UBC Vancouver or Okanagan students who are keen to share their passion for STEM with youth in grades 3-7
WHAT: A volunteer leadership role involving the facilitation of a Homework and Hangout Club for youth
WHEN: 8 weeks beginning the week of January 18th
WHERE: Online! We will set up zoom calls for you to run these sessions in
WHY: To help support students not only with their school work but also with building a meaningful community for the youth in the program
We are looking for volunteers to support students in grades 4-7 with topics tied to the BC Provincial Learning Outcomes! You would teach a short lesson, facilitate a question period where students would ask homework questions they were assigned from class, as well as facilitate icebreaker games to encourage community building.
We ask volunteers to commit to running a 8 week program beginning the week of January 18th for 1.5 hours a week, most classes will run from 4:00-5:30pm. With prep time included this would involve approximately 3-4 hours of volunteer time each week. Training will occur on the weekend of January 11th (time TBD). This program will equip you will valuable soft skills in communicating your STEM knowledge to the general community. It will also give you experience working with youth and facilitating community building and tutoring in a group setting.

- STEM 3/4 (Tuesday): Jan 19th, Jan 26th, Feb 2nd, Feb 9th, Feb 23rd, Mar 2nd, Mar 9th, Mar 30th
- STEM 5 (Wednesday): Jan 20th, Jan 27th, Feb 3nd, Feb 10th, Feb 24th, Mar 3rd, Mar 10th, Mar 31st
- STEM 6/7 (Thursday): Jan 21st, Jan 28th, Feb 4th, Feb 11th, Feb 25th, Mar 4th, Mar 11th, Apr 1st
