Homework and Hangout Club Volunteer Opportunity

Are you a UBC Vancouver or Okanagan student who is keen to share your passion for STEM? Take on a volunteer leadership role involving the facilitation of a Homework and Hangout Club for youth! We are looking for volunteers to support students in Grades 3-7 with topics tied to the BC Provincial Learning Outcomes! You will teach a short lesson, facilitate a Q&A period where students ask homework questions they were assigned from class, as well as facilitate icebreaker games to encourage community building.

Why should I volunteer for the Homework & Hangout Club?

To help support students not only with their school work but also with building a meaningful community for the youth in the program! This program will also equip you with valuable soft skills in communicating your STEM knowledge to the general community. It will also give you experience working with youth and facilitating community building and tutoring in a group setting.

How long is the program?

We ask volunteers to commit to running a 6 week program beginning the week of May 3rd for 1.5 hours each week, all classes run from 4 – 5:30PM. With prep time included, this would involve approximately 3-4 hours of volunteer time each week. Training will occur the week prior to the first club for all new volunteers.

Clubs run weekly from 4PM to 5:30PM online. Depending on the grade level, club sessions are held every Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
